What You Need to Know About Getting Porcelain Dental Veneers

Friday September 16, 2022

Have you been looking for a simple yet incredibly effective way to enhance your smile’s brightness, symmetry, health, and youthfulness? If so, you should consider veneers! Veneers are very thin shells applied to a tooth’s front surface. Typically made of porcelain, they are entirely customizable so that you get the appearance you seek. If you are in Fort Worth, Texas, and are looking into veneers, visit Dr. Spencer Hoyt and the friendly team at FW Dental Arts today.

Getting Your Veneers at FW Dental Arts

It will require multiple appointments when you decide that you are ready to pursue porcelain veneers to enhance your smile. Dr. Hoyt will require three visits over five weeks. During your first appointment, a consultation will take place. This consultation will consist of a simple interview, during which you can present your goals so that Dr. Hoyt can determine if veneers are a good option for you. Additionally, we will take scans and photos of your teeth so that Dr. Hoyt can have a record on file for you.

During your second appointment (also called preparation day), some minor prep work will need to be performed on your teeth so that veneers can be applied. This is a simple smoothing of the tooth surface, after which scans will be taken and temporary veneers created and placed, which you will wear while waiting for your permanent veneers to be created. This process typically takes about two hours but can vary based on how many veneers are being crafted. Once Dr. Hoyt receives your veneers–usually, about three weeks after placing your temporary veneers–you will return for your third appointment, during which they will be placed and bonded to the tooth’s surface. We will also create an occlusal guard to help protect your veneers.

Your Personalized Smile Design

When designing a patient’s new smile, much thought and consideration go into the process based on the details you will share during your consultation. Dr. Hoyt likes to get to know each patient who comes in so that he can understand their goals. The shade, length, size, and color that a patient desires are some details that allow Dr. Hoyt to design the patient’s new smile accurately.

Once Dr. Hoyt understands the patient’s desires, he will carefully examine the photos and scans taken during your initial consultation. Looking at a patient’s smile, seeing how full the lips are, and seeing how we can utilize the space in the mouth are all facets of the smile taken into account as Dr. Hoyt determines what length, width, and shape should be added to the teeth through veneer placement.

We then create wax designs with all this detail in mind and then use them as a template for designing the veneers you will ultimately walk away with.

When you visit FW Dental Arts for veneers, you may not know how many veneers you need to meet your smile goals. The number of veneers you and Dr. Hoyt decide upon for your particular situation will depend on several factors, such as your goals and the current state of your smile. Sometimes only a single veneer will be necessary, while other situations could call for ten. Some patients with severely worn teeth might require an entire arch of veneers. The goal is to use the minimum number of veneers while still being able to meet your dental health and esthetic goals.
